Make sure that you ask to see your plumber’s gas safety card before starting a job. Some plumbers fail to renew their accreditation when it expires. Gas Safe certification must be renewed every five years by passing an exam. This keeps gas engineers updated on legislation and best practices. A gas engineer cannot legally carry out gas work without a valid certificate. Different certificates cover different gas appliances, similar to driving licence categories. Plumbers choose their qualifications based on their customer base. A Gas Safe card for boiler installation does not mean a plumber can work on gas fires. Always check they are certified for the specific appliance. Landlords with multiple gas appliances need a plumber qualified for each. A gas boiler, gas fire, and gas hob each require different certifications. Ask to see proof of qualification. I only carry out gas work on domestic appliances and can install any gas pipework that you require in your house.
